Apply For Your Driver Theory Test
The initial step is to apply for your Driver Theory Test. You can book your test online here or by ringing 1890 606 106 between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday.

Complete And Pass Your Driver Theory Test

The driver theory test is a computer-based multiple choice exam. You answer 40 questions and you must answer 35 correctly to successfully pass the test. The test covers general road safety knowledge and motoring legislation including:
  • Rules Of The Road
  • Risk Perception
  • Eco-driving
  • Hazard Awareness
  • Good Driving Behaviour

Apply For Your Learner Driving Permit
Once you have passed your Driver Theory Test, you can apply for your Learner Driving Permit. You will need to hold this to drive on the road. You can get the application form (D201) from your local Garda station or library or motor taxation office. You will also need to supply a completed Eyesight Test Certificate D502 and, in some cases, a Medical Report Form D501. For more information, go to the Dublin City Council website.

While we cannot accompany you whilst you take your test, if you keep calm and remember all that we have taught you, we are confident that you will be successful.
